Qiu Fazu

Qiu Fazu, _zh. 裘法祖, pinyin: Qiú Fǎzǔ (* December 6 1914 Hangzhou Zhejiang; † June 14 2008 Wuhan Hubei) was a Chinese surgeon and saviour of Jewish prisoners. In the People's Republic of China, he is considered the father of Chinese surgery.

Life

Qiu's mother died at a young age in 1933, of appendicitis and inadequate medical assistance. Qiu thus decided to pursue studies in medicine. First, he made his final at the German School of Medicine "in Shanghai, the predecessor of today's Tongji University. Then he went 1936 than Humboldt - scholarship Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich. There he was in November 1939 all tests with honors, became the MD doctorate and received his approval. Qiu died with 94 years and was on 18 June 2008 in Wuhan buried.
