Tatarstan , Russian Federation, a left-banktributary of theKama River . It's length is 270 km and itsdrainage basin is 5,020km² . It origins nearMikhaylovka ,Leninogorsky District ,Tatarstan and falls to theKama River 7 km south-west ofNizhnekamsk .At its headstream the river is named the Steppe Zay ( _ru. Степной Зай, "Stepnoy Zay", _tt. Дала Зәе|Dala Zäye). The lower reach of the river after the confluence withForest Zay River (55 km), the river is named simply Zay. Also, one of headstream Steppe Zay’s tributary is also named simply Zay. Another major tributaries are Moshkara, Zay-Karatay, Ursala, Aktashka, and Shumyshka Rivers. The mineralization varies from 2000-3000 to 5000-8000 mg/l. Average sediment in mouth per year is 130 mm. Drainage is regulated. There are two reservoirs, Zainsk andKarabash Reservoir s constructed in Zay valley. Since 1978 it is protected as "natural monument of Tatarstan".
