- FIBA Diamond Ball
-
The FIBA Diamond Ball is an official international basketball tournament organized by FIBA, held every Olympic year prior to the Olympics. The first tournament was held in 2000 for men's teams only; starting in 2004, tournaments have been held for both men and women.
The competing teams are the host country, the host country of that year's Olympics and the reigning world and intercontinental champions, minus the United States men's team (if they are the Americas champions). The United States women's team did not participate in the 2004 event even though it was the then-reigning world champion; however, it did compete in the 2008 event as FIBA Americas champion.
