Edwin "Eddie" Marshall (b. April 13, 1968,
Springfield, Massachusetts ) is an Americanjazz drummer.Marshall played in his father's swing group and in
R&B bands while inhigh school . He moved toNew York City in 1956, developing his percussion style under the influence ofMax Roach andArt Blakey . Two years later he played in the quartet ofCharlie Mariano and withToshiko Akiyoshi ; after two years' service in the Army, he returned to play with Akiyoshi again in 1965. He worked withMike Nock for a year in thehouse band of the New Yorknightclub The Dom, and also worked withStan Getz andSam Rivers , and accompaniedDionne Warwick on tours.In 1967 he was a member of The Fourth Way, a fusion group which included Nock, Michael White, and
Ron McClure . This group toured theSan Francisco Bay Area through the early 1970s; after this Marshall played withJon Hendricks andThe Pointer Sisters . In the middle of the 1970s Marshall played withBobby Hutcherson ,John Klemmer ,Kenny Burrell ,Art Pepper (1977), and Almanac. In 1977 Marshall released an album under his own name, with Hutcherson andGeorge Cables as sidemen. In 1980 he played withPharoah Sanders andAhmad Jamal , and in 1984 he worked in the projectBebop & Beyond withJohn Handy and Cables.Marshall underwent
heart surgery in 1984, temporary sidelining his career, but he continued to perform on therecorder . He then taught at theSan Francisco School of the Arts , and issued his second release as a leader in 1999. In the 2000s he worked on theSan Francisco Arts Commission .Discography as leader
