refnum=68000025The Ellicott City Station is the oldest remaining passenger train station in the United States, and one of the oldest in the world. At the time of its construction it was the terminus of theBaltimore and Ohio Railroad line fromBaltimore to Ellicott's Mills, Maryland and it incorporated features for the servicing of steam engines at the end of the 13-mile run. The station was built in 1829-30 at the end of the Oliver Viaduct of local stone provided by one of the Ellicott's quarries [cite web|url=http://www.marylandhistoricaltrust.net/nr/NRDetail.aspx?HDID=23&FROM=NRNHLList.aspx|title=Maryland Historical Trust|date=2008-06-10|work= Ellicott City Station, B & O Railway, Howard County|publisher=Maryland Historical Trust] .References
