Tebay services

Tebay Services are a pair of motorway service stations, between junctions 38 and 39 of the M6 motorway in Cumbria, England. They are also known as Westmorland services, from the name of the company running them. The two carriageways of the motorway divide at this point as they complete the ascent from the Lune Valley to Shap summit and so the two service areas are a couple of hundred metres apart. Tebay West Services opened in 1972 and serves the northbound carriageway. Tebay East opened in 1993 serving southbound traffic. There is also a further service area owned by the same company just off the M6 in Tebay village known as Junction 38 Truckstop Services opened in 1986 which mainly caters for the HGV and long distance coach trade but is open to the general public.

The closest city is Lancaster, thirty-two miles to the south. The operating company is named after the historic county of Westmorland.

They are not operated by one of the major chains but by an independent family-owned company: Westmorland Ltd. who also operate the Rheged Discovery Centre about 20 km away. They are most notable for having an extremely pleasant country setting, with traditional timber built lodges, rather than the usual 'concrete block' buildings. There are lots of trees and greenery within the sites and even a couple of small lakes. This has won great popularity among its many regular visitors.

Each side of the motorway has a farm shop (opened by Prince Charles in 2004). Together, these won Best Local Retailer 2003 in the BBC Radio 4 Food and Farming Awards.

The northbound service area also has a travel trailer caravan park and the Westmorland Hotel. This site also serves as the head office for Westmorland Ltd. and its parent company Westmorland Motorway Services Ltd.
