- African Movement of Working Children and Youth
African Movement of Working Children and Youth (AMWCY) is a child-led organisation that is working to prevent children from early exodus and child trafficking and limits children’s mobility risk. It is made up of 148.194 members and close supporters (1 member for 2 close supporters) children and youth, girls and boys including housemaids, apprentices, market salesgirls, independent working children, They support education, literacy, health care, freedom of expression and work safety and resist child trafficking and exploitation. Its representatives meet annually at the regional levels but local associations are working everyday in 126 African cities and village communities, throughout 21 Sub Saharan countries, to improve the situation of working children and to make their voices heard. Its vision is expressed as follow:
All African children , must be born and grow in good condition , and enjoy their full rights to thrive, while at the same time they help their communities to develop harmoniously in peace and in a favourable environment.
AMWCY claims 12 priority rights:
* The right to be taught a trade
* The right to stay in the village (not to migrate)
* The right to work in a safe environment
* The right to light and limited work
* The right to rest when sick
* The right to be listened to
* The right to healthcare
* The right to learn to read and to write
* The right to play
* The right to self expression and to form organizations
* The right to equitable legal aid, in case of difficulty.AMWCY has gained the support of ECOWAS.
