Godfrey v. Georgia 446 U.S. 420 (1980) is a United States Supreme Court case [ [http://supreme.justia.com/us/446/420/ GODFREY V. GEORGIA, 446 U. S. 420 (1980) - US Supreme Court Cases from Justia & Oyez ] ] in which the Court overturned a death sentence based upon a finding that a murder was "outrageously or wantonly vile, horrible, and inhuman," as it deemed that any murder may be reasonably characterized in this manner.
