The Rhymney River ( _cy. Rhymni) is a river in the Rhymney Valley, south-east Wales, flowing into the Severn estuary.

The river forms the boundary between the ancient counties of Glamorgan and Monmouthshire.

Path of the river

The river runs south, through (in order):
*Rhymney
*New Tredegar
*Bargoed
*Ystrad Mynach
*To the north of Caerphilly, the river arcs east to avoid Caerphilly mountain
*Bedwas
*Machen

History

Being part of the South Wales coal and iron producing area, the river had poor water quality through most of the twentieth century. Since that time, the water has become a lot cleaner.
