netbook ). It is based on the Intel Atom platform consisting of anIntel Atom N270 processor, Intel 945GSE Express chipset and Intel 82801GBM (ICH7M) I/O controller. [http://www.acer.com/aspireone/ - About - Platform]The Aspire One became available in July 2008. Acer has since then introduced models with the larger 6-cell battery, as well as a wider selection of colors including Coral Pink, Golden Brown and Onyx Black.
It is manufactured by
Quanta Computer . [http://www.digitimes.com/systems/a20080710PD222.html]torage
Current versions of the Aspire One are configured with either an 8 GB
SSD or a 120/160 GBHDD .The SSD has a 40pin ZIF PATA connector, and identifies itself as SSDPAMM0008G1 or P-SSD 1800. The former is the Intel Z-P230, with a specified maximum read speed of 38 MB/s and write speed of 10 MB/s, while the latter is an unspecified Samsung model reported to be slightly faster.http://www.intel.com/design/flash/nand/z-p230/index.htm]
The HDD is a regular 2.5" 5400rpm SATA drive. Three different drives have been reported so far: Seagate ST9120817AS, Western Digital WD1200BEVS and Hitachi HTS543212L9A300.http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/disc/manuals/notebook/momentus/5400.4/SATA/100468842a.pdf] http://www.wdc.com/de/products/products.asp?driveid=200] http://www.hitachigst.com/tech/techlib.nsf/techdocs/C51A283F52498251862573FA005A3C98/$file/Travelstar_5K320_DS.pdf]
The ICH7M I/O Controller supports
AHCI NCQ. However Acer has disabled the AHCI function in the BIOS. The HDD is recognized as a normal IDE HDD in Windows with lower performance. A future BIOS patch should be able to turn on AHCI, but it is fully determined by Acer. There is also an SD/SDHC storage expansion slot for additional storage, which automatically expands the space of the SSD or HDD on Linux versions via
aufs , and an additional multi-in-1 flash memory card reader. The built in BIOS does not support booting an operating system from these slots though.Power
Components
The Intel Atom platform has a specified maximum TDP of 11.8W. Individual figures are 2.5W for the N270 processor, 6W for the 945GSE chipset and 3.3W for the 82801GBM I/O controller. [http://ark.intel.com/system.aspx?groupID=36331&configID=27616&chipsetID=36550] [http://ark.intel.com/cpu.aspx?groupId=36331] [http://ark.intel.com/chipset.aspx?familyID=35553] [http://ark.intel.com/product.aspx?id=27680] The AUO B089AW01 LCD panel is rated at a maximum power consumption of 3W. [http://www.gblcd.com/datacenter/au/B089AW01_V0.pdf] Typical read/write power consumption for the SSD is around 0.3W, and 0.01W when idle. The different HDDs are rated at about 1.5-2.5W for read/write operations and around 0.7W when idle.
Battery Life
The Official ratings for the battery are "up to 3 hours" for the 3-cell, and "up to 7 hours" for the 6-cell.
Linpus Linux Lite has been optimized by Acer for lower power consumption. Battery life is shorter on XP and HDD configurations.oftware
Models are pre-installed with either
Windows XP Home (SP3) orLinpus Linux Lite [http://www.acer.com/aspireone/ - About - Software] offering a simplified user interface, with default applications like the Firefox 2 browser,OpenOffice.org 2.3, Acer One Mail and Acer One Messenger available directly on the main screen.ource code
In accordance with the GPL Acer has released the source code for
