Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire, WalesKnown for St. Davids Polo and Racing Club, PR, Polo Arwel Wyn Richards (born 25 January 1982 in Carmarthen) is a Welsh fixer and tournament director of Gower Polo.[1]
He has been involved in the Welsh polo scene[2] for many years. Working with the prestigious St. Davids Polo and Racing Club, Wales’ only polo club, as tournament director, Richards hosted a beach polo day in Swansea Bay in August 2009. The polo club regularly holds the highlight of the Welsh social scene, a charity polo match at Fonmon Castle, Cardiff. A charity polo day was held by the club on the Legge-Bourke estate, Glanusk Park, in July 2009.
In the spring of 2010 Richards established Gower Polo based at Oldwalls, Llanrhidian, Gower.
From 2007 to 2009 he was Festival Director of the Swansea Film Festival. His talents for public relations and organisation were missed at the film festival and since his departure the Patron Catherine Zeta Jones,[3] and Vice President Michael Sheen have both resigned, citing adverse publicity.
Trivia
Richards is descended, through his maternal grandmother, from Sir Owen Cosby Philipps a disgraced shipping magnate who at one time owned the White Star Line, owners of the Titanic. Philipps was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment in Wormwood Scrubs for fraud, whilst in prison he had all his meals sent in from a first-class caterer.[4]
The Western Mail listed Richards as the 15th Most Stylish Businessman in Wales in April 2011. .[5]
In July 2010 Richards was included in the Wales on Sunday Top 50 Sexiest Welsh Celebrity Men list and came 24th.[6]
Richards has written and contributed articles on fashion, travel and style.
He is a Royalist and supports the work of HRH Prince Charles in Wales.
