bird about 12 inches (30 centimeters) long. It ismonotypic in the genus "Struthidea". It is a native toAustralia where it roamswoodland s, eating insects and seeds. Apostlebirds always seem to travel in groups of about 12; for this reason they were named after theBiblical apostles - the twelve followers ofJesus Christ . In fact they travel in groups of between 6 and 20. They are commonly known locally as "Lousy Jacks" due to heavy louse infestations being common.Conservation status
