He played hurling with his local club Borrisoleigh and with the Tipperary senior inter-county team in the 1990s. He was one of the true greats of Tipperary hurling and also played in the Railway Cup for the Munster provincial team.He comes from a great hurling family.His brother richard stakelum also hurled for tipp.He now trains u8s in a fantastic club called durlas og.[1]
