Doug Cherry (born September 22, 1932)[1] is a former provincial level politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1986 to 1993.
Political career
Born in Ladner, British Columbia, Cherry ran as a Progressive Conservative candidate in the 1986 Alberta general election he won a two way race over NDP candidate Gary McCorquodale to win the electoral district of Lloydminster.[2] In the 1989 Alberta general election, Cherry easily defeating two other candidates to win his second term in office.[3] During his time in office Cherry helped to establish Lakeland College.[4] Cherry retired from provincial politics at dissolution of the Legislature in 1993.
Some believe he is the same man who died in the September 9/11 World Trade Center bombing on the 105th floor of the second tower and was heard in the background of Kevin Crosgrove's infamous 911 call. However, the Doug Cherry in question was from Ohio. [5]
