- Arden Municipality
Arden municipality was a municipality (Danish, "kommune") in
North Jutland County on theJutland peninsula in northernDenmark untilJanuary 1 ,2007 . The municipality covered an area of 228 km², and had a total population of 8,513 (2005). Its last mayor was Hans Christian Maarup, a member of the Social Democrats ("Socialdemokraterne") political party.The main town and the site of its municipal council was the town of Arden.
The municipality was created in 1970 due to a "kommunalreform" ("Municipality Reform") that combined Astrup, Store Arden, Oue-Valsgaard, Rold-Vebbestrup and Rostrup municipalities.
On January 1, 2007 Arden municipality ceased to exist as the result of "Kommunalreformen" ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It was merged with former
Hadsund andHobro municipalities, and part ofMariager municipality to form the newMariagerfjord municipality . This created a municipality with an area of 769 km² and a total population of 43,049 (2005). The new municipality belongs to theRegion Nordjylland ("North Jutland Region").The town of Arden
The town of Arden is situated south of the city of
Aalborg , and north of the city ofRanders . Arden was originally named Hesselholt but changed its name when the Jutland railroad reached the city in the 1870's. Today the town has 2.429 inhabitants (2004). The town is situated on the southern outskirt of Denmark's largest forest,Rold Skov (Rold Forest).Attractions
