- Món cuốn
-
Món cuốn is a Vietnamese roll which includes a variety of ingredients rolled in rice paper (bánh tráng); it may include vegetable and herb leaves, or others. The range of possible ingredients allows people to select only what they want, according to their taste (this is named rau ăn kèm or rau sống). The dish is always served with a dipping sauce called nước chấm.
Món cuốn is a finger food in which the ingredients are cooked but the diners assemble their own rolls. It is also a real variety of fast food because of its fast-cooking process but invented from the old days.
Món cuốn represents the rich diversity of the Vietnamese cuisine and people. Seeing people having món cuốn, others can recognize their skillfulness, especially women (sayings: "Learn to eat, learn to speak, learn to wrap, learn to open").
