Halo James

Halo James was a British pop group active from 1988 to 1991.

Named after the main character from the comic strip "The Ballad of Halo Jones", the band was fronted by vocalist Christian James (born 21 December 1964) and included Ray St. John (guitar, bass, songwriting; formerly of Pride) and Neil Palmer (keyboards; formerly of Atomage and Two People) among its members. They scored a Top Ten hit on the UK Singles Chart in January 1990 with their second single "Could Have Told You So", which became a major success all over Europe, and received critical acclaim for their Epic Records album "The Witness", which peaked at #18 on the UK Albums Chart, and went on to sell over 100,000 copies in its first year of release.

They had several other minor hit singles, but never hit the Top 40 again, and disbanded in 1991.

Following the demise of the band, St. John, who had previously co-written Sade's 1984 hit "Smooth Operator" prior to forming Halo James, remained active as a songwriter, and has written hit songs for several other artists, including Snoop Dogg and Gabrielle, and is now also a songwriter and record producer in the Christian rock and country music genres, whilst Palmer worked with Melanie between 1996 and 2001.
