The complete novel was first published in book form in 1981 by Donald M. Grant, Publisher, Inc. in an edition of 1,875 copies of which 400 were boxed and signed by the artists. The novel originally appeared in Adventure in 1926. It was published with its two sequel novels (which had also appeared in Adventure) with new linking sections by Doubleday in 1931.
Plot introduction
A Crusader, betrayed by a scheming emperor and pursued by Muslim swordsmen, discovers the sword of Roland.
