List of countries and dependencies by real population density in inhabitants/km² of arable land ranks the major countries (10 largest landmasses, 10 largest populations, 10 largest economies) based on arable land available and hence the capacity to feed their own people. This is a much better measure than pure population density as it shows how while at first look India might seem more densely populated than countries like UK actually it is not as a much larger portion of the land in India is usable for agriculture. This list also explains why throughout the history of mankind places like China and India have supported larger populations i.e. have had higher carrying capacities.
