It is also around 45 kilometers from Majestic bus stand of Bengaluru city
Malluru is home to nearly 12000 people with 3,000 homes. Major occupation of people living in Mallur is sericulture and dairy farming.
A Pre-university College, which is well known for quality education is run by Swamy Vivekananda Educational Trust, which is aided by Government and managed by Village development cooperavtive, Malluru. The education institution was set up by the village development cooperative with a aim to provide affordable quality education to children of malluru and nearby villages and managed by a committee elected by the cooperative members.
Mr.Papanna a freedom fighter was a person who had dedicated his life to the development of this villages through cooperative movement,He along with other villagers was quite successful in his attempts to make people embrace cooperative movement. He died 15 years ago.
Mr.Papanna was the man behind cooperative movement in the village. He had set up nearly 10 cooperative institutions in the village. Most of the cooperatives are inactive today.
Cooperative movement was so successful that till recently the development of the village was administered by village development cooperative. The village had its own health center which was governed and run by cooperative. St. johns hospital of Bengaluru was the medical partner in this initiative. Recently they have parted their ways for unknown reasons.
The dairy cooperative is the largest individual milk supplying cooperative in the state. The administration of the cooperative is a best example for the fruits of cooperative movements in the village.
The place is notorious for the huge depletion of ground water, the village is home to more than several thousand bore wells, of which 90 % are dry.
The plight of people for safe drinking water is unresolved for decades. There was a movement by farmers for securing drinking water but in vain.
The rainfall is very scanty in the area, the rainfall in area is almost same as in Ananthpur district, which is second most dry district in India. The average rainfall here is around 20 cm -30 cm per annual.
The major reason for the water depletion in the area is because of miss management of micro irrigation systems and the intensive farming during the 1980s and 1990s.
Because of lack of irrigation facility, the young population commutes to Bangalore for work.
Transportation The public transport is very bad in this place as it is dominated by private bus operators who offer ride to bangalore at cheaper rates, because of this the state run buses have been incurring losses.
Demography The sex ratio is 980:1000 and literacy rate is 65 %
The villagers were very brave during the Freedom struggle, more than 50 people participated in the freedom movement. Each and every household had a freedom fighter during the independence struggle. Among those Mr Muniyappa fondly called Ayya by villagers, who is more than 90 years of age and still healthy and actively participates in educating school children about freedom struggle and importance of freedon movement.
This village is also notorious for the villagers obsession with politics which split the good work done by the Mr. Papanna and other villagers is gone in vain as the cooperative movement has taken a back seat because of politics. This can be a good example to show negativity of grass root politics to sustainable development of villages.
A kilometer away is Melur village which is like twin sister to Malluru, Melur also has same population as of Malluru and there is a demand from residents of both Malluru and melur to form a town panchayahat combining both, which can provide more amenities to the population and also development of the area.
