The Wye Valley Walk [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/388907] is a long distance footpath in Wales and England following the course of the River Wye [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/415779] .

Distance

The whole route now that it has been extended runs for 136 miles [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/288739] .

The Route

Traditionally running from the river's mouth at Chepstow in Monmouthshire, to Rhayader via Newtown, Presteigne and Builth Wells, a total of 112 miles (181 km) long. The route has now been extended to start/finish at the source of the river Wye on Plynlimon mountain near Aberystwyth, a new total of 136miles.

The route passes through Chepstow [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/206145] , the Wye Valley AONB, Tintern [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/301271] , Monmouth, Ross-on-Wye [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/42693] , Symonds Yat, Hereford [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/156992] , Hay-on-Wye, Builth Wells [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/321424] , Rhayader, to Plynlimon.

It follows the border [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/418333] between Wales and England and permits a greater insight into the differences and similarities between the scenery [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/415785] , history, language and culture of both.
