- Kaisaniemi metro station
The Kaisaniemi metro station (Finnish "Kaisaniemen metroasema" / Swedish "Metrostationen Kajsaniemi") is a station on the
Helsinki Metro . It serves the centralHelsinki district ofKaisaniemi . It is the only station whose name is announced in only one language: whether this is Finnish or Swedish is unknown and irrelevant, because the Finnish 'Kaisaniemi' and the Swedish 'Kajsaniemi' are pronounced identically. When the station was opened the announcement was for a while in two languages like on the other stations, 'Kaisaniemi - Kajsaniemi'. This unnecessary repetition caused a lot of amusement, and the station name has been announced only once since then. The station was opened on
1 March 1995 , designed by thearchitect bureau "Kontio - Kilpi - Valjento Oy". It is located at a distance of approximately 0.597kilometre s from the Central Railway Station, and 0.916 kilometres from theHakaniemi metro station .The station is situated at a depth of 27
metre s below ground level (22m belowsea level ). The station is equipped with an unusual glass-sidedfunicular -styleelevator operating along the slope next to the escalators (contrasting with a more conventional vertical liftshaft).metro station
