Lemmingball Z is a freeware PC game created by Dutch computertechnician and software developer Analytical.

Inspiration

As the title states, the game was inspired by the fighting of Dragonball Z. It was also inspired by the game Liero.

The game was originally supposed to be "Wormsball Z", however AnalyticaL had great difficulty with drawing and rendering Worms, and had to decided to switch to his second choice, Lemmings.

Inception

Lemmingball Z started out as an experiment. AnalyticaL was studying computerprogramming and decided to try and design a game. This proved to be more fun than creating small graphical effects and utility software.

Gameplay

The purpose of the game is basically to defeat the opposing lemming(s), but there are also different modes, in which one you purpose other goals. At the moment there are 9 playable characters to chose from. Every character can use kiballs, one of his three special moves, kicks, punches and lots of other moves.

Version history

1st package

The early versions for LBZ were created in Quick Basic for MS-DOS. It featured the basic gameplay, sprites and a 800x600 screen resolution.

2nd package

After the software became too much for Quick Basic to handle, AnalyticaL had to upgrade to Pascal.Pascal offered a lot of new opportunities such as...

3rd package

The Pascal build had the shortest lifespan of all the builds and was soon retired. The entire game was rewritten in C++, using Open GL for the graphics. Using these software packages together allowed for advanced interactive expansion. Destructible environments and more interactive character models. This is also the first version to be released to the general public.

4th package

The fourth version of the game was basically the same as the third version. It however added several advanced features such as 3D levels, a custom level editor and character modability.
