Admiral Sir Raymond (Derek) Lygo has had a distinguished career in the
Royal Navy and subsequently in industry.He was born
15 March 1924 and educated at Valentine's School,Ilford ,Ilford County High School and Clark's College,Bromley .Career
Joining the
Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve in 1942 as a naval airman, [http://www.unithistories.com/officers/RNVR_officersL.html] he became commanding Officer of HMS Ark Royal, 1969-71, Vice Chief of Naval Staff, 1975-78 and Chief of Naval Staff, 1978. He was awarded the KCB in 1977.Following his retirement, he joined
British Aerospace . He held several senior posts, including Group Deputy Chairman, 1980, board member, 1980-89 and member of the Supervisory Board ofAirbus Industrie , 1987-89. He was also Chairman ofRoyal Ordnance , 1987-88. Subsequently, he was director of several other companies.Other activities

* Council Member,Industrial Society , 1985-2001 and its appeal chairman, 1989-91
* Council Member,National Economic Development Council , 1989-1991

* Director, Southern Counties,Prince's Youth Business Trust , 1993-97Sir Raymond is President of the HMS St. Vincent Association. He joined the training establishment in Gosport, Hampshire as a Naval Airman in 1942.
Sir Raymond is Patron of the
Fleet Air Arm Association .
