The airline was established in 1955 to link towns in what was then known as Dutch Guiana or Suriname. The initial service between Paramaribo and
Moengo was soon expanded to other destinations, before the official creation of Surinaamse Luchtvaart Maatschappij (SLM) on30 August 1962 . The airline became the national carrier upon Suriname's independence from theNetherlands on25 November 1975 . It is wholly owned by the Surinamese government.Destinations
