Fanniidae (The Leser house flies) that contains over 260 species of flies. This species is similar to the "housefly " ("Musca domestica") but is smaller, more slender, darker, and has only three longitudinal stripes on thethorax , as opposed to four in the housefly. [cite book|author=Rozkosny, R.; Gregor, F.; Pont, A.C.|year=1997 |title=The European Fanniidae (Diptera)|pages=80 pp|publisher=Institute of Landscape Ecology]This and other "Fannia" species can cause accidental Rectal
myiasis in humans. It is believed that myiasis occurs as a result of a "Fannia" fly laying eggs on theanus and larvae crawling in to the rectum to begin development. There are no serious medical consequences of this parasitic fly. (Diptera muscidae) in Belgium|pages=27-28 pp|Rev Med Liege] "Fanniidae scalaris" has also been documented causing Urogenital myiasis in children.
