Russell Ormond Redman

Russell Ormond Redman is a Canadian astronomer, b.1951, a specialist in radio astronomy on the staff of the National Research Council of Canada at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory. In 1966, just after the 9th grade, he first volunteered for the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory (DAO) in Victoria, British Columbia -- and his initial publication was the list of nearest stars in the 1970 Observer's Handbook, when still in high school. He received his Ph.D. from California Institute of Technology in 1982, and subsequently published over 75 scientific papers [ [http://adsabs.harvard.edu/cgi-bin/nph-abs_connect?return_req=no_params&&author=Redman,+R&db_key=AST Astronomical Data System] ] .

The asteroid 1993 PE (7886 Redman) has been named jointly for him and for Roderick Oliver Redman, Professor of Astronomy at Cambridge University, no relation except that both worked at the DAO during significant parts of their careers.
