Tagudin is a 4th class municipality in the province of Ilocos Sur,
Philippines . According to the2000 census, it has a population of 34,427 people in 6,603 households.Tagudin was formerly the capital of the sub-province of
Amburayan , which includedLepanto (another sub-province now included in the province ofBenguet ), Angaki (nowQuirino ),Suyo , andAlilem (now withIlocos Sur ), andSudipen , Santol, and San Gabriel (formerly with Ilocos Sur but became part ofLa Union ).Barangays

barangay s.Origin of the Municipality's Name
The name of the municipality was derived from a traditional loom called "tagudan." A Spaniard who came to the place asking its name wrote it as its name when told by a resident, who thought that he was asking the name of the cloth-weaving apparatus she's using.
History

sundial s were constructed in Tagudin in 1884 by Father Juan Sorolla.
