Gray ghost streamer

Gray ghost streamer

The Gray Ghost Streamer is an artificial fly, of the streamer type. It was first tied by Carrie G. Stevens in 1924 in Madison, Maine. Mrs. Stevens was the wife of the Maine Guide Wallace Stevens. She had some extra time so she tied this streamer along with many others in the style know as the Rangeley Style. Most of her flies have the jungle cock eye in common. The pattern is highly regarded and is one of the best fly patterns ever tied. The pattern is sold by companies in several variations, perhaps to cut down on tying time and the cost of the materials. This pattern is used and tied mostly for trout. When Mrs. Stevens tried it out, she caught a 6 pound 13 ounce brook trout from the Upper Dam pool. She then entered the fish in a Field & Stream competition and won second prize. After that day she made fly fishing history.
