Lee Hsien Yang

Lee Hsien Yang (Chinese: 李显扬, Pinyin: Lǐ Xiǎnyáng, born 1957) is the second son of Singapore's first prime minister Lee Kuan Yew. He is currently the Non-Executive Director and Chairman-Designate of Fraser and Neave Limited.

Like his brother Lee Hsien Loong (the current Prime Minister of Singapore), Lee received the Singapore President's Scholarship and the Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Merit Scholarship after finishing his secondary education at Catholic High School and pre-university education at the National Junior College, and went to study at Cambridge University. He then returned to Singapore to serve in the armed forces, rising to the rank of Brigadier-General.

Career

He was the Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Telecommunications since May 1995, until his announcement on 21 July 2006 that he planned to step down. On 21 September 2006, SingTel announced that Chua Sock Koong, its Chief Financial Officer, would take over as the company's new Chief Executive Officer in April 2007. "As a key member of the senior management team, Sock Koong has been intimately involved in all the key operational decisions, and has had broad exposure across all areas of the business. She has also been instrumental to developing SingTel's strategy over the past ten years and has played a significant role in SingTel's major acquisitions, divestments and partnerships."

Lee has ruled out a career in politics. In September 2007, Fraser and Neave appoints Mr Lee as Non-Executive Director and Chairman-Designate from 6 September 2007 onwards. Mr Lee will assume the position of non-executive Chairman of the Company and Consultant upon the retirement of Dr Fam on 15 October 2007. Family

Lee married lawyer Lim Suet Fern, the daughter of Professor Lim Chong Yah, at Barker Road Methodist Church on July 18 1981. The couple have three sons named Shengwu, Huanwu and Shaowu.
