The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences predates the current campus, having been founded in 1946 at the [ [http://www.uic.edu/depts/lib/specialcoll/ua/pdf/UIC_LAS_History.pdf University Archives - Liberal Arts and Sciences History] ] . However, at that time liberal arts education was overseen by an associate dean. In 1964, as the University was being reconstituted at the Circle Campus, the Board of Trustees approved a full-fledged college with seventeen departments.
