Usama Alshaibi

Chicago-based film director Usama Alshaibi ( _ar. أسامة الشيبي) was born in Baghdad, Iraq in November 20, 1969. Alshaibi is the director of one feature length film, "Muhammad and Jane", and more than thirty short films and videos, some of which star performance artist Echo Transgression and Polish actor and filmmaker Piotr Tokarski. He has also produced and directed numerous music videos for a variety of musicians, including Bobby Conn, Panicsville and Magic is Küntmaster. Alshaibi is the founder and Director of the Z Film Festival and his short films have toured with author Jack Sargeant's underground film programs.

Usama Alshaibi is interviewed in fellow Chicagoan Studs Terkel's book "Hope Dies Last".

Starting in early 2004, Alshaibi worked on a documentary on his homeland, and its current situation, titled Nice Bombs. The film was produced by Alshaibi's wife, fellow filmmaker Kristie Alshaibi and executive produced by Terkel. It premiered at the Chicago Underground Film Festival in 2006.

Usama is currently an on-air host and producer for Chicago Public Radio's Vocalo.org.
