Lions Youth Brass Band

Lions Youth Brass Band

The Lions Youth Brass Band is a youth band based in Sandbach, England. Founded in 1988, the band is named after several Lions Clubs in the region that have sponsored it since its founding. The organization contains three bands for players of different skill levels; in ascending order, these are the beginners' band, the junior band, and the youth band.

The band has placed highly in national competitions on several occasions, and won the national youth band competition two years in a row in the 1990s. The group has made five recordings: two cassettes, "The Pride of the Lions" volumes 1 and 2, and three CDs, "Sounds of Youth", "True and Trusty" and "Loyal and True". The band plans to record a fourth CD in October/November 2008.

The organisation's current Musical Directors are Nigel Birch (Youth Band), Sarah Raisbeck and Tom Hancock (Junior Brass) and Chris Thompson, Hayley Scott and Andrew Felton (Beginner Brass). David Thornton, Principal Euphonium of the Black Dyke Band, has recently been appointed 'Musical Associate' whilst former player Ian Raisbeck holds the title of 'Composer-in-Residence'.
