USS Morris (PC-1179)

The USS "Morris" (PC-1179) was a World War II era United States Navy submarine chaser. Originally commissioned as PC-1179 in 1943 and decommissioned in 1946, she was recommissioned as the eighth USS "Morris" in 1956.

She was struck from the Navy List in 1960 and sold to Zidell Shipbreakers in Portland, Oregon for $17,000.

Commissioned on 22 January, 1944 at New Orleans, L.A.Decommissioned on 13 May, 1946

Later years

Struck from the navy register on 1 July, 1960 and was sold on 10 May, 1961, to Zidell Shipbreakers
Portland, Oregon for US$17,038.88.

Armament one 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, one single 40mm gun mount; three 20mm guns, two rocket launchers, four depth charge projectiles, two depth charge tracks; Propulsion two 2,880bhp Fairbanks-Morse diesel engines (Serial No. 833299 and 833300), Westinghouse single reduction gear, two shafts.
