Leif Tronstad (
27 March 1903 -11 March 1945 ) was a Norwegian scientist, intelligence officer and military organiser.He is best known for his role as a planner for the mission involving
Norwegian heavy water sabotage , but he was also involved with acquiring important information about theV-2 rocket which led to massive allied bombing ofPeenemünde .Major Tronstad later killed during a mission to occupied
Norway .In 1947, he was awarded Norways's highest decoration for military gallantry, the "Krigskorset med Sverd" or
War Cross with sword . In addition to his Norwegian decorations, Tronstad received the BritishOrder of the British Empire andDistinguished Service Order , the FrenchLégion d'honneur andCroix de guerre and the USPresidential Medal of Freedom .External links
