He made his first appearance as a pitcher with Chattanooga, starting one game and lasting four innings, allowing seven earned runs.

In 2006, he played in 99 more games as an outfielder, hitting .267 and pitched in three games.

For the 2007 season, he was converted to a pitcher full time. Appearing in 12 games for High A Sarasota Reds with a 1.29 ERA in 14 innings and in 37 games for Chattanooga, managing a 3.59 ERA in 52.2 innings pitched.
