- Rajagiri
Rajagiri is a small hill in
Kochi ,Kerala ,India which was bought and developed by Sacred Heart province of CMI -Carmelites of Mary Immaculate [http://www.cmi.in] ) congregation. The literal meaning of "raja-giri" inMalayalam (the vernacular of Kerala, India) is the "Hill of the King", where the King refers to "Christ the King".Nowadays, "Rajagiri" is synonymous with Sacred Heart Province [http://www.shprovince.org/index.htm] of CMI congregation and the institutions under its management. The provincial head-quarters of Sacred Heart province is situated at Rajagiri.
History
When the CMI Congregation was divided into three provinces in 1953, the central area of Kerala, more or less coextensive with the territory of the then archdiocese of Ernakulam (today Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdioces [http://www.ernakulamarchdiocese.org/] and Kothamangalam Diocese [http://www.kothamangalamdiocese.org/] ), was constituted into Sacred Heart Province.
When the province was established it had its headquarters at Aluva (the present St Antony's Monastry, Aluva). Then it was shifted to Rajagiri, Kalamassery in 1959. The Sacred Heart province was then on, came to known as Rajagiri province. Rajagiri College of Social Sciences was established in 1955 by Rajagiri (Sacred Heart) province at Rajagiri [http://www.rajagiri.edu/php/showContent.php?linkid=16] . Rajagiri Higher Secondary School was founded in 1964 [http://www.rajagirihss.org/main/School.asp] . Later on, the following listed educational institutions emerged under the Rajagiri management. The students from these institutions identify themselves as 'rajagirians'.
