- Rex Roycroft
Rex Roycroft (born 23 May 1946) is a Production Saloon driver from
New Zealand . He is currently the national title holder in this grade of the Circle Track Racing Association. He has won approximately 15 championships at club level. Of the three clubs he competed at the last season he was Points Leader at two, and Driver of the Year at one.Biography
Career
He has driven many cars over the 30 plus years of racing but presently drives a VN Commodore 3.8 Calais which he purchased from a lock-up facility after its confiscation off the road for excessive speed and dangerous driving (which he thought would auger well for racing).
Rex has also competed nationally in side-car racing (he was the swinger or pillion) at the old Western Springs Speedway, Auckland, and motor-cross when his children took the sport up. He retired from that due to injuries sustained in the 50 Plus Veterans Nationals. He competes at most clubs around Northland New Zealand but wants to go further afield next season. His major sponsor is Finance By Design.
There is a strong racing tradition in the Roycroft family. His parents Ruth and Ken drove competively, Ruth having her first race at age 62. She drives a sporty Prelude VTek these days in her 80s. Younger brother John competes in the Victoria, Australia circuit.
Marriage and children
He is currently married to another driver, Didi Muncaster-Wright who he met at speedway. His ex-wives Robyn Dooley and Heather Eden also drove competively for several years. Their six children Daryl, Helen, Neil, Ben Wright, Murray and Julie have also driven with much success. Julie initially drove in the Ladies' Grade but wanted to compete against her brothers and father - to show them how to drive properly.
