Brentwood High School is a public high school located in Brentwood, Tennessee, U.S.A. The school serves the north central section of Williamson County. It serves grades 9-12 and is known for high test scores, successful sports teams, a great band, and a successful media program. The mission of Brentwood High School is to prepare all students to reach their highest level of achievement in academics, athletics, and the arts. State-wide, Brentwood High School has become recognized for high achievement in academics, arts, and athletics.

The school was built in 1982 with additions coming in 1987, 1994, 1998, 2000, 2001,2002, and 2003. What started out as a small public school grew into a large school with an enrollment of 1,482 students. The school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. There are 1483 students with 359 in the present senior class. The pupil/teacher ratio is 21.7/1. The mascot is the Bruin and the school colors are blue and gold. Administration and faculty

Mr. Kevin Keidel is the current principal and chief administrator of Brentwood High. The school currently has three assistant principals. Mr. Chris Hames serving the 12th grade, Dr. John Calton serving the 11th and 10th grade, and Mrs. Stephanie Simmons serving the 9th grade. Academics

“Top ranked” is a way to describe Brentwood High School. A web-exclusive extended list of America’s “Top High Schools” was published by Newsweek in May 2007. Schools were ranked according to a ratio devised to compare the number of students taking Advanced Placement (AP) courses and exams with the number of high school graduates. Brentwood High School ranked first for Tennessee comprehensive public high schools. The school follows the semester system with ½ credit earned per course each semester. Students are enrolled in 6 credit classes. Class periods are 47 minutes long, with 8 periods per day which includes homeroom and study hall.

Twenty-three Advanced Placement classes are offered at Brentwood, and they are very popular among 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. In 2006, 79% of the students received a 3 or better on the AP test, 80% received a 3 or better in 2007.

Band

Led by Randy Box, Brentwood High is known nation-wide for its band program. Since its inception in 1982, the Brentwood High School Band has given opportunities to many musically inclined students. Choir

The school has 80+ class rooms, a full size media room, three computer labs, band and choir rooms, counseling center, state of the art media center, full production theater, two gymnasiums, wrestling room, five locker rooms, full size weight room, baseball/softball field, football field, practice fields, soccer fields, cafeteria, and two stores selling various goods. Brentwood is populated by one middle school, Brentwood Middle, which is populated by three elementary schools, Scales Elementary, Lipscomb Elementary, and Edmondson Elementary.

Testing

Testing is an important aspect of Brentwood High School. The ACT is required to graduate. The average score in 2006 was 24.4 and was 24.8 in 2007. Although not required, many students take the SAT. The combined score in 2006 was 1167 and the score in 2007 was 1206. The school produced four National Merit Semi-Finalists in 2006 and eight in 2007.
