high school located inNashville, Tennessee and is part of the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) District. The school mascot is the Hilltopper and the school colors are kelly green, black and white. Hillwood was built in 1959. In the aftermath ofBrown v. Board of Education , many students from predominantly African-American neiborhoods of North Nashville were bused to Hillwood to integrate Nashville Schools. On July 8, 2008 the MNPS School Board removed the non-contiguous neighborhoods from the Hillwood Zone, back to the nearly predominant Black Pearl Cohn Comprehensive High School in North Nashville. As part of the administration's vision of Hillwood, students are reminded nearly every day over the intercom that "here at Hillwood, we are about the business of school!" And that "good citizenship is doing what's right, and what's expected!"
Academics
Hillwood offers all levels of academics. Standard and honors level courses are available along with Advanced Placement and

The football team was State Championship contender in the 1990s and early 2000s before their move from AAAA (4A) to AAAAA (5A), which is Tennessee's highest class. The football team is currently coached by Mose Phillips, Jr., who was a starting quarterback at rival Hillsboro High School, and starting fullback at the
University of Tennessee . The wrestling team is known for their dominance in the 1970s under famed coach G.P. West, whom the Brentwood Invitational (G.P. West Bruin Invitational) is named for, as well as its many State Champions and the Hillwood Invitaional. Also the Wrestling team had a great run in the mid 1990's under Al Posnack. The baseball team accumulated Hillwood's first State Championship in any sport when they won the TSSAA AAA State Championship over Maryville High School in 1977.
