Claude Lelouch . The film follows a novelist, her ghost writer, and a wayward young woman as a chance encounter at a rest stop interrupts the delicate balance of their lives. French actorDominique Pinon received wide praise for his rare turn as the film's leading man. The title is French slang for "trashy novel one reads in a train or train station" similar to the English phrase "beach book".A large part of the tension in the story has to do with the identity of the helpful man wanting to give a ride to the abandoned young woman at the roadside rest stop. There are three possibilties at least. One of them is very dangerous since he might be a rapist-killer.
