Huthis

Huthis

The Huthis (alternately: al-Huthis, Houthi) are a militant group of Zaydi Shia operating in Yemen. Their activities are focused in the northwestern Saada province. Various reports associate the Huthis with the Yemeni Zaydi group Believing Youth (Shabab al-Mu'minoon).

The group takes its name from Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi, their former commander, who was killed by Yemeni army forces in September 2004. [ [http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/9B661165-2CD6-4582-8B4D-507C3653F795.htm Deaths in Yemeni mosque blast] Al Jazeera, 02 May 2008.]
