Francis Aloysius Sullivan, S.J., is a Catholic theologian and a
Jesuit priest . He is best known for his research in the area ofecclesiology and themagisterium .Biography
Francis Sullivan received an M.A. in Philosophy from
Boston College in 1945, and an M.A. in Classics fromFordham University in 1948. He received his doctorate from thePontifical Gregorian University in Rome in 1956.From 1956 until 1992, Sullivan was professor of ecclesiology at the Gregorian University, serving as dean from 1964 to 1970.
William Levada , the current Prefect of theCongregation of the Doctrine of the Faith , received his doctorate under Sullivan in 1971.From 1992 until the present, Sullivan has been a professor of theology at
