Character Oriented Windows

Character Oriented Windows

"Character Oriented Windows (COW)" is a graphical user-interface technology used on the IBM PC to provide interfaces that are independent of the video graphics technology used by the computer. The technology gained prominence when used to create a user-friendly IDE for Turbo Pascal in 1985, and has evolved since then. The technology reached its height with Visual Basic for MS-DOS in 1991. It is still used when pixel-based graphics modes are presumably unfeasible, one such circumstance being BIOS interface software.
