Philbrook

Philbrook

Philbrook is an English-derived surname commonly found in New England. The name is commonly seen as Philbrook or Philbrick, yet they both originate from the same familial line.

Thomas Philbrick (Philbrook) immigrated to the United States as part of the "Great Migration" of Puritans in about 1633 and was among one of the founding households of Watertown, Massachusetts. Eventually he, along with his three sons John, James and Thomas Philbrick moved to Hampton, New Hampshire where they settled their families and descendants for most of the next 100 years.

Some famous Philbrook descendants include Robert Frost and Winston Churchill.

Jacob Chapman wrote "A Genealogy of the Philbrick and Philbrook Families," which was published in 1886.
