Gregg grew up playing football with an eye to turning professional.
World War I intervened before he could do so and he enlisted in theRoyal Scots Regiment as a private on March 2, 1917.Professional
In September 1921, Gregg signed his first professional contract with
Irvine Meadow F.C. in the Ayreshire First Division. In August 1923, he transferred toKilmarnock F.C. in theScottish Football League . In July 1924, he moved toGalston F.C. and in July 1925 toNithsdale Wanderers F.C. , both of the newly established Third Division. In April 1926, he reruned to Galston. He was there for only a month before signing with thePhiladelphia Field Club of theAmerican Soccer League (ASL). He left Scotland in June for his first season in the United States. Philadelphia left the league at the end of the season and Gregg moved to theNew Bedford Whalers . This was an unproductive season as Gregg saw time in only two games with the Whalers before being sent to theProvidence Clamdiggers where he again played in only two games. He then moved toHolley Carburetor for the 1929-1930 season before returning to Chicago to sign withBricklayers F.C. Bricklayers went to the final of the1931 National Challenge Cup , falling to theFall River Marksmen . Gregg scored the Bricklayers lone goal in its 1-1 tie with Fall River in the second game. In 1931, Gregg moved south to sign withStix, Baer and Fuller F.C. of theSt. Louis Soccer League . Gregg finally found a home in St. Louis, spending the next four seasons there SBF went to the 1932 and 1933 and1934 National Challenge Cup s, winning the last two. However, Gregg suffered from frequent injuries and did not play in SBF’s championship games. As a result, the team was renamedSt. Louis Central Breweries F.C. . In 1936, Gregg left Central Breweries, St. Louis and the United States to return to Scotland. At some point, he moved to England, dying inIpswich in 1955.External links
