University of Houston called University of Houston Victoria Center. In its inaugural year, 100 students enrolled in the institution.In April 1983, the Texas legislature passed Senate Bill 235, which granted the institution permanent degree-granting status in the state of Texas. The University of Houston Victoria Center was renamed to the University of Houston–Victoria, and became a separate institution from UH in the
University of Houston System as the system's fourth university.In 2007, the university began an athletics program to compete in baseball and softball. Academics
UHV consists of four academic colleges: the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Business Administration, the School of Education and Human Development, and the School of Nursing. Each school offers both
undergraduate degree s andmaster's degree s. The university is strictly an upper-division and graduate school. Students may only enroll after they earn 54 semester credit hours of coursework with a 2.0 grade point average.The university offers courses in a traditional on-campus setting, over the internet with distance education courses, and at two University of Houston System teaching centers: the UH System at Cinco Ranch and the UH System at Sugar Land.
Campus
The University of Houston–Victoria is located in Victoria, Texas, and in turn, is a part of the Coastal Bend region. It is approximately 30 miles from the
Gulf of Mexico . The university is nearly equidistant by about 125 miles from the city ofHouston , San Antonio, and Austin. The institution shares some of its facilities with Victoria College, which is located in roughly the same location as UHV.
Athletics
The University of Houston-Victoria's athletics teams are known as the UHV Jaguars. UHV fields varsity
baseball andsoftball teams that compete in the NAIA. Independent from any athletic conference, the Jaguars are part of the NAIA's Region VI. UHV's athletics history began in 2007, when the two programs were set-up, and the first official season began for the Jaguars in 2008. UHV is one of only two institutions in the University of Houston System that have varsity athletic programs. The athletic director is Ashley Walyuchow.Baseball

The Jaguars softball team finished their first regular season nationally ranked as #15 by the NAIA, and received the No. 4 seed to the Region VI tournament.
