Characters in Famicom Tantei Club Part II

is a text-based adventure game released by Nintendo in 1989 for the Famicom Disk System. The original version was released in two discs in 1989, and the game was ported to the Super Famicom and the Game Boy Advance several years later. The Super Famicom version was released for the Wii's Virtual Console in Japan on April 30, 2008. The game was never released outside of Japan. The objective is to solve two sets of mysteries; the "Girl in the Back" ghost mystery of Ushimitsu High School, and a decade-old murder mystery nearing legal expiration. Like the previous game in the series, the game progresses as the player chooses from a set of commands displayed on a menu. These commands are used to interact with other characters and the game's environment, examine clues, or review facts. The results of choosing each command are displayed in text. While solving these mysteries, the player will encounter a variety of characters - both major and minor to the plot.

hunsuke Utsugi

The director of the private detective agency in the game, shown to be highly regarded by the police force. He is shown to be working on the Genjiro Kaneda murder case, and leaves the protagonist in charge of investigating Yoko Kojima's murder. The game tells of him saying how he sees much of himself into the protagonist [Man [Utsugi] : "Seeing you [the protagonist] brings back memories of who I used to be...I can't just leave you like this." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] The coroner for Yoko's corpse describes Utsugi as a "pushy guy". [Coroner: "I already spoke with Mr. Utsugi about everything. Kind of a pushy guy, wouldn't you say? Heh..." Maruyama

The Chief Inspector [Detective: "Good day, I'm Chief Inspector Maruyama." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] of the police force who is a close friend of Utsugi. In the game, Maruyama is dressed like a stereotypical detective. He is shown to be currently working on the final investigation of the Genjiro Kaneda murder, which occurred 15 years ago. 48 years old.

Ushimitsu High School Students

Ayumi Tachibana

A freshman schoolgirl at Ushimitsu High School, and a member of the school's detective club with her friend, Yoko.Memo (on Ayumi Tachibana): "This girl had been running a detective club with the recent victim, Yoko." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] The club investigates rumors and reports what is found to the police [Ayumi: Together, we would investigate rumors around town, and report what we discovered to the police." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] ; though initially, it wasn't too serious. [Ayumi: "We [she and Yoko] started the club almost as a joke, but now...all I have to show for it is..." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] She is shown to cooperate with the protagonist to solve the murder of her closest friend, Yoko Kojima. Yoko Kojima

A freshman schoolgirl at Ushimitsu High School, and a member of the school's detective club, along with one of her friends, Ayumi. Her corpse is found at a local riverside.Memo (on Yoko Kojima): " [Yoko] was found at a local riverbank, strangled. The time of death is estimated to be between 9 and 10 PM on Oct. 10th." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] In the game, the player will learn that she was investigating the school's mysterious rumor of the "Girl in the Back" - right before she was murdered. She believes that the "Girl in the Back" (Shinobu's corpse) is behind the mirror. [Logbook (on Chapter 2): "It was also learned that Yoko had approached Ayumi a while back, near the school's huge mirror. She left Ayumi with some puzzling words...'The Girl in Back ["sic"] now stands behind you...'" Later on in the game, Ayumi learns from Yoko's mother that Shinobu is Yoko's cousin - partially explaining their similarities. However, he didn't mean to kill her. In a blind rage, I wrung her little neck right then and there until long after she stopped breathing..." / "I hadn't meant to kill her...in a fit of confusion, I just dropped her body there and ran home!" Hitomi Kawai

A freshman schoolboy at Ushimitsu High School, and Yoko Kojima's best friend, who treated him respectfully. [Hitomi: "...Yoko was my best friend. We never let each other out of our sight, let me tell ya...She was always there, cheerin' me on..." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] The game shows how he portrays himself as the leader of all the "punks" at the school.Weird Kid: "Since you know Ayumi, I suppose you're in the cool. In Chapter 1, two specific schoolgirls introduce the "Girl in the Back" rumor to the player. They say that sometimes, when you're all alone in school here, you'll hear someone calling to you from behind......And when you turn around, this girl will be there...she'll be just staring at you, covered with blood..." / Student B: "Whoa..." / Student A: "At other times you might be walking through the hallway, and you'll suddenly hear a faint voice behind you......but when you turn around, no one will be there. The voice seems to come from all directions...no one's been able to figure out where it comes from. Ushimitsu High School Personnel

Tatsuya Hibino

An English teacher at Ushimitsu High School. He was Yoko Kojima's homeroom teacher, and appears to the player greatly disturbed by her death. [Veteran] Teacher: "This recent event seemed to have taken quite a toll on Mr. Hibino. He's been acting very restless lately." Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] He also seems to be disturbed by what he knows about the Genjiro Kaneda murder [Hibino: "...Well, actually there is something I know about it [the Genjiro Kaneda incident] ." / Protagonist: "!?......" / Hibino: "But...I'd rather not talk about it. It brings up such awful memories, I don't think I could bear to mention it."] and doesn't want to discuss the "Girl in the Back" story. [Memo (on Tatsuya Hibino): "He avoids speaking of the Girl in Back ["sic"] ." He stepped in after we lost dad, acting like a father would for a son. He was the only one there for me...I'm so thankful..." [Hibino: "You see, Hibino was my mother's maiden name. I started using it when I changed schools, to get away from the stigma attached to the Uchida name..." / "I couldn't call myself that [Uchida] , not after my father was the main suspect in a murder case, and then...how they found him like that..." / "My mother, rest her soul, had always told me how important it was to keep your name unblemished. I'll always remember her words." [Hibino: "Because of Mr. Kaneda...my father...! If only those no-good Kanedas never existed!" (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] [Hibino: "The Kanedas...they're a disgrace to this school and to this town!" (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] [Protagonist's thoughts: "Hibino's hatred of the Kanedas is certainly understandable, considering all that's happened to him and his family..." When his missing father phoned him about his suicide, he went to leave a message to Urabe's answering machine about going to kill Genjiro right before committing that murder.Hibino: "Ever since that day, 15 years ago, after my missing father phoned me to say he'd taken poison...I made up my mind that I had nothing left to life for except to see Genjiro Kaneda die by my own hands! Tetsushi Komada

An art teacher at Ushimitsu High School. He says that he had worked at the school for 35 years; the longest of any of the teachers. [Komada: "It's ben 35 years since I came to Ushimitsu." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] He is shown to be an old friend of Principal Urabe. When the protagonist implies that Urabe could be a suspect, he is shown to play a prank on him and locks hims in his art room for a while. [Komada: "...So, [protagonist] ...you're convinced Urabe is the murderer..." / Protagonist: "?......" / Komada: "How little you know of what really goes on here at Ushimitsu...how every teacher here has a secret......" / Protagonist: "Mr. Komada...!?" / Komada: "I locked the door as I came in...You're trapped! Speaking of secrets, anything could happen to you right now, and no one would ever know..." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] [Komada: "Ahahaha! Just kidding! I had you going there, didn't I? But please, I really do not appreciate all this ridiculous gossip about Principal Urabe. [Komada: "But, seeing as how the principal was away on business at the time of the Goro murder...how could he be the killer!? Principal Urabe is NOT a murderer!! Toshio Tazaki

A janitor working at Ushimitsu High School. He is shown to be usually quite calm and normal, but is portrayed as an oddball because of his quick temper in the game. [Urabe: "Indeed, Mr. Tazaki has been known to act somewhat erratically from time to time. However, as you have seen, he is a good man deep down." / "True, Mr. Tazaki can be somewhat dubious at times..." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] Tazaki's backstory tells that he has been working at the school for about 20 years, ["Tazaki: "I've been the school janitor here for more than 20 years now." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] and used to work as a plasterer. [Komada: "Back in the days before he [Tazaki] as a janitor here, he used to be a plasterer." / "He fixed it up in no time after it had collapsed one day. He's very good at what he does." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] He has a TV in his janitor room. [Protagonist's thoughts: "There's a variety show on. I wonder how much TV he [Tazaki] watches during his work day..." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] Initially, he gets very panicky whenever he is questioned by the protagonist about his argument with Yoko [Logbook (on Chapter 2): "When asked about Yoko, he [Tazaki] seemed to lose his cool almost immediately." / "The janitor, Tazaki, seemed awfully suspicious when confronted about Yoko..." It's all a big misunderstanding!" / Protagonist: "Mr. Tazaki, please cooperate!" / Tazaki: "G, get out!" (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] When Ayumi tracks him down to a cliff, he threatens to kill her with a knife - resorting to murder and suicideLogbook (on Chapter 6): "Having lost all hope, Mr. Tazaki had been driven to the brink of suicide. He soon gave up, confessing everything in blind desperation. As it turned out, Mr. Tazaki had no explanation for his whereabouts during the Kaneda murder. Fearing suspicion, he fabricated the alibi of having plastered the wall...The next morning, he went to the principal, who told Tazaki he would vouch for the false alibi." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] . However, he stops himself and confesses about his false alibi. He says that to protect Urabe from the revealed-to-be-false alibi, he intended to kill himself - "end it all at the sea" - at his hometown, but was confronted by Ayumi. [Tazaki:"' "I was afraid that if my cover got blown, everybody would realise ["sic"] Urabe helped me cover up, and his career would be over...Back when I eavesdropped on you and Ms. Hayama, I decided something...I decided to protect Principal Urabe the only way I could, by ending it all in the sea, here in my home town...But when I got to my apartment, I found Ayumi waiting for me there...All she did was ask me to tell her the truth, but I snapped and said something really awful to her...I said, 'If people carry on pestering me like this, I'll...kill 'em! The backstory provided to the player shows that he used to be an avid gambler and went to jail; when he was employed by Urabe, he felt another chance in life but eventually went back into gambling.Tazaki: "See, I used to be in gambling big time...I got involved with some shady people and things got really outta hand...I did some time...and after I got out, nobody wanted to hire me! I didn't know where to go next, but somehow I met Principal Urabe...No matter what I said or did, he always had faith in me. And he gave me a job...I'd come so far since the old days...he gave me a whole new shot at life. But...I got comfortable at my new job. I slipped back into gambling a little, and before long, I needed a loan. That's where Kaneda came in." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] He was a suspect of the Kaneda murder; he borrowed a large amount of money from Genjiro to regain money he lost from gambling. The next day, Genjiro demanded a repayment of the loan that Tazaki couldn't pay back.Tazaki: "...It went like this...the day before Mr. Kaneda was killed, I had an argument with him. He said he wanted me to repay this loan I'd taken out by the very next day, with no advance notice whatsoever. There was no way I could cough up that kinda cash so quick...So that night, I took a trip to his house to try and reason with him. But when I got there, I found the police and everybody! There were a bunch of people gathered around, who told me he'd been murdered!" (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] His (false) alibi was that he was plastering a crumbling wall of the old school building from 9 P.M. (the time of the Kaneda murder) until midnight, supervised by Principal Urabe [Logbook (on Chapter 4): "Long ago, Mr. Tazaki was a suspect in the Kaneda case. Back then he had borrowed a sum of money from Mr. Kaneda, but got into a jam when he couldn't pay it back. However, he provided a sound alibi. At the time of the Kaneda murder, he claimed to have been plastering a wall at Ushimitsu Highschool ["sic"] 's abandoned building. Mr. Tazaki's alibi was confirmed by Ushimitsu's principal, Tadashi Urabe." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] [Logbook (on Chapter 5): "Principal Urabe stood behind Tazaki, claiming he stayed late at the school that night, supervising the job until it was finished." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] . In actuality, he visited Kaneda's mansion to discuss Genjiro's unfair demand, but there were already onlookers for the murder. To provide a convincable alibi, Tazaki remembered an assignment of his to replaster the wall of the old schoolhouse, so he snuck into the school during midnight to plaster it. [Tazaki: "With all that debt on my hands, no one woulda believed I hadn't killed Kaneda, unless I had a solid alibi...So I got thinkin', and remembered the principal had asked me to fix that wall a few days before. So, in the middle of the night, I snuck out and plastered it up real quick. The next mornin', I went straight to the principal and told him everything. He looked a bit surprised, but you know what he said? 'I have faith in you, Mr. Tazaki. That is why I will help you. Do not worry about this trivial matter. If anyone were to ask me about it, I will simply say I supervised you plastering the wall while the murder took place.'" (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] During this time, he took a break; the next morning, his tools appeared to have been used. 58 years old.

Tadashi Urabe

The principal of Ushimitsu High School. Throughout conversations with the characters, it can be found out that he is greatly respected by both teachers and students as a fair educator. He strives to be as close to his students as possibleUrabe: "Every student who walks through these doors is family to me. I was truly devastated when I heard the news." / "Mr. [last name of protagonist] , I want you to know that I will help in any way I can to ensure the success of this investigation. However, I regretfully admit that I am powerless to keep the students out of danger. If only there were more I could do to help these young people achieve their goals...no one should meet such a fate as Yoko's. If it would only spare their innocent souls, I would do anything...even sacrifice myself." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] , and Mr. Komada claims he even has a good memory of past students.Komada: "! If such a student [the Uchida boy] ever attended Ushimitsu Highschool, the principal would most definitely remember him! The principal knows everything about the students here. He has an excellent memory!" / Protagonist: "!!" / Komada: "...I would recommend you to go see him right away, but...Principal Urabe left this early morning on a business trip." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] Komada: "Yes, it's already been more than 30 years since then...Back in those days, he wanted nothing more than to be blessed with a family of his own. But...his wife had a weak heart. She collapsed one day, six months into her pregnancy..." / Protagonist: "......" / "They couldnt'save the baby?" / Komada: "No...it was tragic. Principal Urabe focused on his career ever since...today, he cares about every one of his students here as though they were his own." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] However, he claims that he used to be one of Genjiro's henchmen. [Utsugi: "Urabe was apparently an old acquaintance of Kaneda's. However, I don't think there's any connection to the murder." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] He shows to remain calm in the wake of the murder, but feels guilty that he was unable to protect his students. A conversation with Komada in the game tells that 30 years ago from the present, his wife and the son she was carrying died - after that, Urabe sought to live a life of solitude. The player learns that when Tazaki needed an alibi for the Genjiro case, he provided him one he would promise to vouch for. While he admitted lying about Tazaki, he has no regrets for doing so.Urabe: "Yes, to aid in his standing, I did indeed supply false testimony. Technically I suppose it was wrong, but I did it only to protect the innocent. I do not regret my decision." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] A recent staff rumor tells he had been hastily attempting to sell his house. During the last days of the investigation, the player learns that Urabe was away on a business trip, early during the morning of the 9th day of the investigation (Chapter 9). The trip is said to take around 2-3 days. [Veteran] Teacher: The principal went away on business this morning. He won't be back for a good two or three days, I heard." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] However, the game reveals he was never on any trip when Ms. Hayama tells that she disproved that he stayed at a specific hotel he said he would check at. [Hayama: I called the hotel he said he was going to be staying at, but they didn't have any record of him ever checking in..." / "After I got off the phone with the hotel, I called his house and spoke with him there about the injured student...why, what's wrong?" (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] Urabe used to own a black Cadillac [Memo (on Tadashi Urabe): "He owned a black Cadillac 15 years ago." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] ; such a car was seen at the night of the Kaneda murder, speeding away from the Kaneda residenceMemo (on Goro Kaneda): "He saw a black car speed away from the crimescene ["sic"] , just after the murder." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] and being parked at the Ushimitsu school gate.Memo (on Hisako Hayama): "On the night of the Kaneda murder, she reported seeing a large black car parked in front of the school's gate. (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)]

In the climax of the game, an anonymous tipster tells the protagonist over the phone that he is still at the school.Anonymous Tipster: "Detective...I'm going to share with you something not many people know. Principal Urabe is far from what you think...a long time ago, this so-called good samaritan had a hand in Mr. Kaneda's shady affairs..." / Protagonist: "Wh, what? Who is this!?" / Anonymous Tipster: "Someone who hates that lowlife from the bottom of his heart. Let me tell you, he's at the school right now..." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] He, along with Hibino and Ayumi, find that Urabe killed himself, and that he made the call himself as a "last cry for help." [Narration: "And so, [the protagonist] now realizes...the phone call must have come from Urabe himself...a last minute cry for help." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] In his suicide letter, Urabe claims even though he was one of Genjiro's henchmen, he was in his way and resorted to murdering him.Urabe's suicide letter: "You see, I was once nothing more than a henchman in the late Mr. Kaneda's schemes. But before long, he started to get in my way...So, on the night of November 10th, 15 years ago, I murdered him in cold blood. It would have been the perfect crime, had it not been for the single eye witness, Shinobu Asakawa...To my astonishment, she had seen everything...so, as she tried to escape, I pursued her in my vehicle. It was then that I ran her down, and fled the scene with her body in my trunk as fast as I could..." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] Realizing that there was an eye-witness (Shinobu), he ran over her. Yoko became dangerously interrogative, and Urabe realized that Goro witnessed him flee; thus, he silenced the two. [Urabe's suicide letter: "But then, suddenly, two people appeared who knew of my dark past...One was a detective by the name of Yoko Kojima. I watched helplessly as she uncovered the facts, one by one, inexorably approaching the truth. The other was Goro Kaneda. It was then that I realized he must have seen me flee after I had murdered his father. This sudden shock was too much for me. Fearing my secret would be exposed, I took the matter into my own hands, once again...And silenced Yoko and Goro before either could reveal what they knew." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] In the ending, the protagonist concludes he dumped Yoko's corpse down the riverside. [Protagonist: "I bet it was the principal who dumped Yoko's body into the river, as well..." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] It is also learned that he covered up his own accidental running over Shinobu with his black Cadillac; he used Tazaki's tools to hide Shinobu's corpse within the mirror.Protagonist: "Yep. And Shinobu's body wasn't in the old building after all. Urabe must have put her behind the mirror after she was murdered." Utsugi: "That's probably why Mr. Tazaki said his tools looked like as though they'd been used." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] Utsugi: But he [Urabe] did have a secret of his own to hide - he killed Shinobu, even if it was an accident." Protagonist: "Huh? I thought Hibino killed her by smashing her head with a vase." Utsugi: "Yes, that's what he claimed in his confession. But forensics told me that while such a blow would have caused massive damage to her skull...No signs of any such fracture were found, not even delivered postmortem. In other words, they're telling me Shinobu died in the car accident." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] Also, his claim of being an assistant of Genjiro was false; he only dealt with Goro after the Genjiro murder. [Utsugi: "He [Urabe] sure got in over his head when he agreed to help Hibino lie - I recently learned Urabe never event dealt with Kaneda until the murder happened." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] 57 years old.

Hisako Hayama

A biology teacher at Ushimitsu High School. She is also a graduate of the school. The player learns that many accused her of starting the "Girl in the Back" rumor; she does admit this alone to the protagonist. Flashback cutscenes show that on the same night of the Kaneda murder, the then sophomore went to the high school to get some homework. She had to go to the old school building to bypass a black car parked by the gate. At the window, she saw a girl completely covered in blood. [Hayama: "It was November 10th, 15 years ago...I was just a sophomore back then. / "At around 10pm that evening, I suddenly remembered I left some homework in my locker. I snuck out of my house and quietly made my way to the highschool. When I got to there, it was as silent as the grave. Just as I was about to sneak in...Someone [the Girl in the Back] called out in a soft, trembling voice, from far behind me." / "Scared out of my wits, I forgot all about my homework and ran straight home. My heart raced all night long..." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] She is convinced the girl is the real ghost of Shinobu Asakawa. [Hayama: "The Girl in Back is the ghost of Shinobu Asakawa...there's no doubt in my mind." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] Later in the game, the player learns that Hayama had to send a schoolgirl to a hospital, along with Hibino. The schoolgirl fell down from a staircase; Hibino was the only one behind her, but she claimed that the "Girl in the Back" was behind her as well. 32 years old.

Other Teachers

A veteran teacher provides several clues for the player. With certain actions from the player, a gym teacher jokes with the protagonist - he pretends to have seen the "Girl in the Back" - but the person behind him was really his mother, nagging him about homework. [ [Gym] Teacher: "Ah, that old rumor [of the Girl in the Back] ...Everybody's got their own take on it. I saw her once, though...It was back when I was very young. I was alone one night, watching TV...Suddenly, I heard a voice call out to me from behind. As I turned around, I saw her...It was my mother, infuriated that I hadn't done my homework! Scary stuff, huh? Hahahahaha! I crack myself up sometimes..." / Protagonist: "Oh, man..." / Teacher: "Hahahahaha..." Genjiro Kaneda

A wealthy local snack bar owner and swindler who lived near Ushimitsu High School.Memo (on Genjiro Kaneda): "The victim of a murder, 15 years ago. He came to this town in February of that year, opening a snack bar." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] He is shown to have tricked many locals out of their money by having them pay back debts based on unfair interest policies [Memo (on Genjiro Kaneda): "While an everyday clerk on the surface, he was very different underneath, forcing people to repay debts at high interest. (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] ; he was also an aggressive con-artist. [Maruyama: "To make matters worse, he [Genjiro] was a master con-artist. He cheated many people out of their well-being and livelihood." / "He was widely regarded as a vicious human being, working with cold-blooded precision." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] He was murdered 15 years ago just as the police began an investigation on his activities. He suffered from multiple stab wounds and died from excessive bleeding. The player learns that he lent Tazaki a large sum of money, but Tazaki was unable to pay back. The player discovers that one of his scamming victims, Teruhiko Uchida, lost his factory.Memo (on Teruhiko Uchida): "This man was once swindled by Kaneda, forcing him to give up his factory. Goro Kaneda

The adopted son of Genjiro Kaneda. When his father was murdered, he came home right after it occurred. [Logbook (on Chapter 3): "The first person to discover Mr. Kaneda was his son, Goro. He apparently came home just after the murder had taken place." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] The player learns that in his youth, he was a student of Ushimitsu High School, and that he was popular with the schoolgirls, including Shinobu; he and his girls would hang out at his father's snack bar. [Maruyama: "Back before the murder, Mr. Kaneda's snack bar was a local hangout. Many girls routinely stopped by there after school. Goro made a reputation for himself early on by picking up many of the local girls and taking them back to his father's mansion. He was very popular with the ladies. Back in those days, he was a bit more than friendly with a number of girls from Ushimitsu Highschool." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] he inherited his father's fortune after his death and lives off the money instead of finding a job. A rumor the player encounters in the game speculates he was not of Genjiro's bloodline. The player learns that Goro had financial troubles. [Logbook (on Chapter 7): "According to local rumor, Goro inherited all of his late father's assets and wealth. However, an interesting point to note is that Goro is apparently not of Genjiro's bloodline. Nevertheless, ever since he inherited his father's wealth, he has been ejnoying ["sic"] a comfortable lifestyle, aimlessly drifting through life as a playboy. Lately however, he's been showing signs that he has squandered his entire fortune, and run into some hard times." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] Goro is a regular at the Sambora bar, and a heavy drinker - he made drunken rants about his father's murder at the bar. The game implies that Urabe was hastily attempting to sell his house to pay off Goro. [Protagonist's thoughts: "Wait a sec! Could the principal have sold his house in order to pay off Goro!?" (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] Backstory gathered through conversations with characters indicate that Goro knew who his father's murderer was and let the murder took place. The customers of the bar the protagonist can interview tell Goro was interested by Urabe's TV interview about the Yoko murder on 9 P.M., right after a ball game. [Bartender: "That night, he [Goro] he came in here and sat in the corner, staring at the TV. It was just after the ball game had ended. After sitting there glued to the TV for the longest time, he suddenly stood up, exclaiming...'Heh, heh heh...it all comes back to me...always! I always win! He would often rant at the Sambora. From time to time he would even claim to know who murdered his father. Upon learning this, I decided to pay a visit to Goro. It then dawned upon me that the man Principal Urabe had been hanging out with was none other than Goro himself. Held tightly in Goro's lifeless hand was a fountain pen, with the initials "T U" engraved on its side." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] ; he even flirted with nearby schoolgirls. [Student: "Oh, that guy [strange man Goro] ? He's totally gross! He was here a while ago, trying to flirt with us!" / Tranny [MtF crossdresser] : "He flirted with me a whole bunch! Yes he did!" (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] When the protagonist arrives at his apartment, the following scene shows him getting murdered with a knife. Hibino's "T.U." pen was found to be in his hand when he was murdered. With Urabe as the (incorrect) suspect in mind, the protagonist thought that Goro, knowing that Urabe killed his father, would blackmail him for money in exchange for keeping Urabe's murder secret. [Protagonist: "I have reason to believe Goro was murdered because he tried to blackmail his father's murderer..." hinobu Asakawa

A schoolgirl of Ushimitsu High School who went missing 15 years ago. She was 16 years old at the time, and her whereabouts are unknown before the end of the game. Sayaka noted to the protagonist that as Tatsuya Uchida's friend since when they were young, Shinobu may had been infatuated with him. [Sayaka: "They'd [Shinobu and Tatsuya] supposedly been close friends ever since they were young. I think Shinobu might have even been interested in him..." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] She portrayed to have used to be shy and meek, until she met Goro; then she became more wild than usual. [Ryoko: "In the final few months I knew her, she had really started to change quite drastically..." / "She seemed a lot more flashy and loud than she ever had before. It probably had something to do with Goro..." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] [Hibino: "...After she [Shinobu] met Goro, she changed completely...During her last few days, the Shinobu I knew was already long gone." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] She, along with two other girls, were waiting for Goro at his home. The two girls lost their patience and left, but Shinobu stayed. [Maruyama: "On the night of the murder, three girls Goro had previously met were waiting at his mansion for him to come home. Since Goro never said when he would be back, two of the girls got tired of waiting and decided to walk home. Only one of the girls remained at the mansion, waiting there all by herself." / Protagonist: "Let me guess - Shinobu Asakawa." / Maruyama: "Bingo. From what we can tell, the Kaneda murder took place shortly after Shinobu was left there alone." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] In the end of the game, it is revealed that she was killed in a run-over accident by Urabe, who used Tazaki's tools to hide her within the mirror. In the ending cutscenes of the game, Hibino tells that he killed Shinobu by smashing her with a vase, but forensics disproved that statement.

Teruhiko Uchida

A local factory owner who is shown to have been tricked into losing his factory to Genjiro Kaneda. He is said to be generous and valuing honesty and helped Genjiro in generosity; however, as Uchida was being manipulated by GenjiroHibino: "...My father was an honorable man who trusted others to be the same. But then, Mr. Kaneda...he used him! Because of Mr. Kaneda, my father lost everything...It was too much for him...so...he took his own life." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] , borrowing a loan from him led to his losing his factory. [Maruyama: "Mr. Uchida used to own a smal factory here in town. But because of a loan he'd taken out from you-know-who [Genjiro] , he was forced to sell it. Uchida seemed to value honesty and integrity above all else. It was just bad luck that he got mixed up with a man like Kaneda. Uchida, a very generous man, came to Mr. Kaneda's aid when he was still new in town. It was all downhill from there, though..." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] He was an old friend of Urabe's. The game tells how he was originally the primary suspect in Kaneda's murder, but was found dead several days later after committing suicide. Losing his factory to Kaneda eventually led to this. The method of suicide was swallowing poison. The scenes showing Hibino's confessions tell that Teruhiko swallowed the poison shortly before the then Tatsuya Uchida went to murder Genjiro. He was 42 years old at the time.

Toshio Tazaki

Tatsuya Uchida

The son of Teruhiko Uchida. The game tells that he was 16 years old at the time of the Kaneda murder. He changed schools from Ushimitsu and moved away after that murder. [Logbook (on Chapter 8): "However, shortly after the Kaneda incident, he [the Uchida boy] changed schools, and moved far away..." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] Throughout conversations with characters, the player will learn that he used to be a close friend of Shinobu, and was nicknamed "Big T" by friends (including Sayaka).Sayaka: "Up until Mr. Uchida committed suicide, we used to go to school with his son. Our nickname for him was Big T." / "I'll always remember what a kind and gentle heart he had. He always seemed bright and cheerful for as long as I knew him." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] He is described as having a kind, cheerful personality. After the player finds his junior-high school picture, the game reveals him as Tatsuya Hibino.

Akiko Kojima

Yoko's mother. The player can see how she fell into a shocked state after the death of her daughter, but gradually in the game, she shows to begin to cooperate with the protagonist's investigation. Her daughter told her a dream about seeing the "Girl in the Back." [Logbook (on Chapter 1): "Some light was shed on this when it was discovered that Yoko had a frighteningly relevant dream, one week before her death. In her dream, she said she saw some kind of girl, soaked in blood. It was coincidentally very similar to an infamous rumor that had been circulating Ayumi's highschool ["sic"] for years..." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] When the protagonist goes on a search for Ayumi, she gives him a picture of her to assist in his search. [Logbook (on Chapter 6): "Continuing to search around, [the protagonist] visited Yoko's house. There, her mother lent out a picture of Ayumi." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] 40 years old.

Ryoko Katsuragi

An alumna of Ushimitsu High School, who is shown to have been a friends of Shinobu Asakawa. The player can discover a portrait of Shinobu in Komada's art room, painted by Ryoko when she was a student of the high school. She gave said portrait to the school when she graduated in Shinobu's memory. [Ryoko: "When I graduated, I gave the portrait to the school in her memory." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] She tried to convince Shinobu to stray away from Goro, but her warnings were ignored. [Ryoko: "If only she [Shinobu] hadn't got involved with him [Goro] , none of this might have ever happened...I tried to be a good friend to her, but she chose her own path..." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] She was interviewed by Yoko, who told her that Shinobu's corpse was still in Ushimitsu High School. Apparently, she was so similar to Shinobu that at first, Ryoko thought she was the Shinobu 15 years ago. [Ryoko: "If I remember correctly, it happened two weeks ago. That night, I heard someone knocking at the door...Thinking it was my husband, I casually opened it, and...there Shinobu was, standing there in front of me! She hadn't changed a bit in 15 years..." / Protagonist: "?!......" / Ryoko: "I was so shocked, I couldn't manage to utter a single word. She then started to speak, which was the strangest part. She introduced herself as Yoko Kojima, a student at Ushimitsu Highschool." Katsuragi's friend and Tatsuya Uchida's former friend. She was in the same class as Shinobu Asakawa in junior-high school. The owner of a strip club [Protagonist's thoughts:" "It's a gentlemen's club." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] [Protagonist's thoughts: "The pimp is inside." / Man: "Hey, hey! Kids can't come in here! Sorry about that, but rules are rules. I'm the owner of this place. Call me Mizuno." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] , and a friend of Goro Kaneda before Genjiro Kaneda's death. He lost contact with his old friend after the murder occurred, having not seen him for more than 10 years. [Mizuno:"' "We [Mizuno and Goro] lost touch soon after the murder. He's spent his life carousing ever since." / "I haven't seen him in more than ten years, and I don't have much intention of doing so now." Katou

The bartender of the "Sambora" bar. He can be irritable [Bartender [Katou] : "I'm a little tired of the two of you [protagonist and the disguised Hitomi] ." / Hitomi: "...B...but..." / Bartender: "Buh buh buh what? Get lost, bozo." (Neo Demiforce and Tomato, "Famicom Detective Club Part II Translation", 10 Oct 2004.)] - the game will show him threatening to beat up the protagonist and the (disguised) Hitomi. However, a scene tells that he was helped by Hitomi Kawai when he was a teenager, and that the two were in a same "gang", whose members shave their eyebrows. 25 years old.

Fumi Tazaki

Toshio Tazaki's mother. She is portrayed to live in the small fishing village of Marufuku in Northeastern Japan. She notes how her son had become a "burden" after his childhood. [Fumi: "He's [Tazaki] always been such a...burden...I don't know why he's always in trouble...he was such a pleasant boy."
