Jeremiah Connolly represented the Mid-Canterbury electorate in the
New Zealand House of Representatives from 1931 until his death in 1935.Independent
Connolly stood as an Independent
Coalition Liberal in the 1931 election and was successful. Geraldine and educated at Hilton School. He was a farmer. In 1902 Connolly purchased the Raukapuka Estate, which he sold in 1919. He then acquired the Langley Estate atRakaia .Jeremiah Connolly served in the South African War (see Richard Stowers, p.76 'Rough Riders at War: a history of New Zealand's involvement in the Anglo-Boer War and information on all members of the ten New Zealand Contingents', Hamilton, 2004) and during WW1 he was a member of the National Efficiency Board (1914-18) and of various patriotic societies [ "A Dictionary of New Zealand Biography", edited by G.H. He collapsed and died in a taxi-cab in Wellington, when going from Parliament to his hotel. He apparently had heart problems. [ "The Press" (Christchurch) Thursday 3 October 1935 page 10e. ]
