- Royal Border Bridge
Royal Border Bridge spans the
River Tweed betweenBerwick-upon-Tweed andTweedmouth inNorthumberland ,England at gbmapping|NT992532. It is a Grade I listedrailway viaduct built between 1847 and 1850, when it was opened by Queen Victoria. Theengineer who designed it was the famousRobert Stephenson (son ofGeorge Stephenson ). It was built for theYork, Newcastle and Berwick Railway and is still in regular use today, as part of theEast Coast Main Line .The bridge is 659 metres long. It has 28
arch es, constructed ofbrick but aesthetically faced with stone. The bridge is 38 metres above the river itself.
